SHOPPING & FESTIVITIES
Enjoy friendly service in Historic Downtown Sturgeon Bay's three distinct shopping districts each with fun festivals that highlight their unique offerings.
The wood buildings and tin facades on the West Side offer an old-fashioned feel. Experience gourmet wine and beer shops, homestyle meals and fabulous bakery, hometown pubs and taverns, live music indoors and out, and boutique shopping options. And don't miss the annual West Fest on Saturday August 10th in 2013. Activities at this western-themed event include a craft show, climbing wall, salsa contest, Gold Rush Giveaway, children's bike parade, kid's mural, and line dancing – cowboy and western duds welcome!
Stone buildings with lots of windows to shop help create the picturesque “main street” that is the Third Avenue district. Coffee shops, taverns and restaurants serve a wide variety of flavors. Find art supplies, framing services, and beautiful galleries showcasing local works. Souvenirs abound along side antiques, new and used books, camping gear, clothing for all ages and outdoor-wear. Sturgeon Bay is first in the county to celebrate the harvest each year at their Harvest Festival, Street Art Auction & Harvest Moon Celebration. This year the festival takes place on Saturday, September 21st and offers a fun-filled day on Third Avenue with food, vintage cars, live music, activities, and a street dance under the stars.
Don't let your first glance fool you, while Jefferson Street looks like a residential area, many of the lovely buildings have been stylishly transformed into charming and eclectic shops offering unique games, toys and children's items, home décor, rubber stamps, gourmet snacks, fresh coffee, and more. This shopping district celebrates with the annual Jazz on Jefferson Street Festival, on Saturday, July 13th this year. Live music, kids activities, strolling entertainers, face-painting and balloons, and lots of great food and drink make this a great opportunity to meander Jefferson Street and visit the shops.
The proximity of these three shopping districts to the rest of Sturgeon Bay make for a great day of exploring whether you're walking, biking, or driving. While you're shopping, enjoy a quick meal at a cozy café or pop into a pub for a cold one, and when you're ready to relax, settle in for a sumptuous meal in a candlelit dining room or while watching the sunset over the waterfront. Plan a summer picnic at Martin Park to enjoy free live music from Harmony by the Bay on Wednesdays, from 7–9pm.
More proof of Sturgeon Bay's love affair with the water, the city salutes the Coast Guard with Sturgeon Bay's Maritime Week, July 25 – August 4, 2013. First, get your shopping fix on Thursday, July 25th at Sail Through the Avenues – THE Sidewalk Sale to attend, with city-wide bargains, live entertainment, food, beverages, and more. Throughout the week catch the Sturgeon Bay Maritime Regatta Rowing Club Competition, the Peninsula Symphonic Band, a Maritime Golf Outing, and the Annual Classic Wooden Boat Festival at the Door County Maritime Museum.
Join the annual Groovin' Sisterhood Weekend and celebrate with the girls! Scheduled for the end of April each year, ladies receive a coupon book, tote, and a detailed list of all the relaxing sessions and exciting events scheduled, from biking and kayaking to massage and spa options, to evening entertainment.
